[[Home Renovation 2014]]

Happy New Year to all you out there!!! I hope you’re as excited for 2014 as I am!! While reflecting on what I wanted to do, I realized I have a lot I want to get done this year. Our cozy home is starting to get super duper cramped with the welcoming of our first child. We’ve completely ran out of room. I decided I would devote this year to home renovations, updates, de-cluttering and whatever else I needed to do, in order to get it ready to sell in the near future.  We need to replace some old appliances and have a few repairs as well. I figure it will take me most of the year to check everything off my list which gives me plenty of time. I sat down with my husband and explained my plan. I told him I wanted to de-clutter and do some updating, and then we’d be ready to move to a newer home with more space. He was surprisingly receptive. With the hubs on board, I set out to complete my first mission… De-cluttering!! Now, I’m not talking about going through a few clothes. No.No. No.  I went through everything: clothes, shoes, jewelry, belts, purses, gloves, socks, towels, linens, baby clothes, china, stuff in the attic, you name it. It felt incredible to PURGE!!

My thought has always been, “Everything has a place. If it doesn’t, then it doesn’t belong in my space.”

I had clothes I haven’t worn in many years. What’s that all about? Pathetic, I know. It’s the ‘ol, ” Hey I may use this someday.” mentality. Well that holds true for only a short while. Before long, you become a “pack rat”. Purge baby purge. It was time to utilize our storage unit… and make a run to the Goodwill!!

So far there’s been 2 huge loads to the storage unit, and one to Goodwill. Ahhhhh… feels better to have a little elbow room. This really did make a world of difference.

Home Renovation 2014 is officially underway!

Check back in for more posts throughout the year as we update our home. :^}

XOXOXO

|Valentine’s Mantel 2014|

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I wanted to get a jump start on decorating the mantel.  Woo hoo!

As you may start to notice, I’m a little obsessed with decorating our mantel. Tee hee. I kinda like it. *wink*

I don’t have very many Valentine’s Day decorations, so I think I’ll get crafty! … with the help from my good old pal Pinterest!! I want to show how easy it is to have a nicely decorated space, without breaking the bank!! I will try to re-use and DIY as much as possible. It’s so rewarding to see a beautifully finished product that was done under budget! YES!!!

Here’s some of my inspiration from Pinterest:

After a few helpful ideas, I was inspired and ready to get started.

…A quick stop at Michael’s craft store.

Eek! I love that store! Dangerous. Okay- Let’s get our craft on!

BEFORE:

Ooh! I’m so excited about this next pic!!  -Okay so this empty picture frame was snatched up from Goodwill a couple years ago. I took the picture and glass out of it, painted it white, and used it as a prop for wedding pictures. Since then (2012) it’s sat in our storage unit, waiting to come in handy once again. Today’s the day!!!  Talk about re-using!!

picture frame: FREE

Next I needed to put something inside this huge frame.. I decided to hang a Valentine’s Day wreath in the center. The cardboard wreath template was only $2.99 and the smaller red roses were $6.99, but I used a 40% off coupon- all from Michael’s! The white roses (once again) are leftovers from some old wedding crafts! Score!   :^}

I stuck the mini roses in the wreath randomly to fill in space.

r

I’ve only spent about $10 so far!!

q

Next, I made a fun garland out of mini pom-pom balls, sheet music, and twine! The twine I already had and the sheet music I found at Goodwill for $.99!! After I bought the pom-poms, this garland cost less than $5.00!

image_17

image_18

I ended up not using the mini clothes pins. They weighed it down too much.

image_22

First the mini pom-poms.                                                               Then a couple hearts.

image_19           image_21

I think this little garland turned out perfect. Simple and pretty.

image_25

What do you think?

image_24

I still haven’t used the little sign that says “love”… hhhmmm….

image_26

I found a little bit of mini pom-pom garland that I had left over from a Handmade Holiday Craft Club!! Thank you Jenn!!

image_11

Next I found another, smaller frame that wasn’t being used. (It’s always good to stock up on a few of these kinds of items when thrift store shopping or hitting up garage sales. I grab things I know I’ll use later!!)

I used some fabric to fill in the frame. Once again, those awesome crafty chicks hooked me up! At this last craft club meeting, each person had a “swag bag” full of goodies, our name tag, pencils, acrylic paint, candy, and this cute fabric. It was the perfect size for this project!! Thanks crafters!!

I spread out my fabric and ironed out the wrinkles… Never mind the 1970’s iron okay?!

Easy as…

Check out this cute little cherub who jumped in my cart at Goodwill. Brand new….. $3.99!!! I know. I know. I totally scored.

Now for the finished product:

Well that’s it! (for now)… I’m already working on one last piece for this Valentine’s Mantel, but the mod-podge is still drying.. so you’ll have to wait!!

Be our guest…

Here’s a before shot of our guest bedroom:

IMAG0143 IMAG0142

It was a bit of an eyesore.. It was used as storage for some random things. Nothing really matched. This room was screaming for a makeover!!

I chose chocolate and mint as my colors for the space.

First we painted the back wall a light blue:

274

I got the lampshade & accent pillows at Ross Dress 4 Less. The chocolate duvet cover and lamp base were garage sale finds! The nightstand was in another room not being used, so it was FREE!!

Since I don’t have a headboard, the back wall needed a focal point.. I found 3 blank canvases in my craft corner.

Who’d thought a couple sticks glued to a canvas would turn out so cute & contemporary!? This new art took me all of about 15 minutes to do. It’s a great temporary fix, until I can get a headboard!!

Bye-Bye boring laundry room!

:: Makeover Throwback::

I hate to do laundry. I really hate it. Laundry is by far my least favorite household chore. Honestly, who likes to do laundry anyway? Ugh! The hubs and I have soooooooooooooooo many clothes; It’s just a never ending battle…

If I’m going to be stuck with this annoying, and tedious task of washing, folding,etc. …  I must make over this little space! I must make it cute, yet functional. It needs just  a pinch of kindness… Unfortunately, I don’t have any “before” pics. Use your imagination… it was plain. White. Pretty basic. :^} I chose green and brown as my colors for this space.. I went to TJ Maxx and Target to find accessories like storage baskets and decorative pieces for the shelves. Then it was off to The Home Depot for paint.

So, let’s start with an accent wall:

IMG_1547

Hhhmm…                             STOP!

This color looks SOCCER FIELD GREEN!   My gut tell me, it’s time to stop and start again. My poor husband came in, saw the bright green, and just about freaked out! haha!

HHmm… okay, back to Home Depot we go…

After a quick swap, we got the color we were looking for.

IMG_1548                         IMG_1549

That looks so much better! Whew!! Okay, onto the next step…

After the paint dried for over 24 hours, I added the cute laundry room decal I bought from Amazon.com. It was simple to apply because

of the convenient self-adhesive.  Just peel it back and STICK!

IMG_5256

Isn’t this “Welcome to our Home” sign adorbs?! I printed some wedding pics in black & white which looks pretty cool with the green wall. I think it looks great in the space.

IMG_5257

So across from this new, awesome wall, is the washer and dryer…

IMG_5258    IMG_5259   IMG_1379  IMG_5260     IMG_1377

Cute key hook I found at Ben Franklin Crafts             Target had green baskets in just the right color!!

I was browsing Pinterest… and found this adorable sign.

I recreated it here:

IMG_5261

This sign did turn out cute, too bad the hubs doesn’t read it! :^}

If I must, I can now do our laundry in a newly updated, and very cute I might add,  laundry room.

Now it’s on to my next project!!

Thanks for stopping by!

[GRACEful Grey]

::Throwback Makeover::

Our home. It has white cabinets with white walls… and white trim… and white doors… white. white. white. The house needed a bit of color!

So, I talked Ross into letting me throw a slight contrast on the walls… In honor of the pooch, we went with a “GRACEful grey “. It turned out to be the perfect contrast. Subtle. The grey makes the trim and cabinets stand out. Before they almost washed out completely. It really matches the decor and our new floors nicely too.

IMG_1334      IMG_1336

IMG_1337    IMG_1333     288

Boy, this was such a huge chore! So much paint…

Even though we went with a light grey, it really added a great contrast to our little home-y space.

See ya at our next home improvement project!

||Merry Christmas||

Hey everyone!! I hope you’re having a happy & healthy holiday season! Now that the rush is over and things are starting to settle, I’d like to share how we spent our first holiday as a family of three! :^}

I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.

                  -Charles Dickens

{It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas}

It started with a week of snow…lots of it. Click here for more pics from our snowy week!!

IMG_5520

Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

 {Deck the Halls}

Traditionally, I start my Christmas shopping on Black Friday. This kick starts “Christmas” for me. When I return home, I begin wrapping and decorating… all weekend long!! It’s probably one of my most happiest times of the whole year. I can’t wait for Natalie to be the age when she believes in Santa Claus (like her mama!).  That will be sooooooooo fun! Soon she will be as excited as I am to decorate and get ready for the holiday season!

                                             IMG_5682                IMG_5724

I did an all new Christmas mantel this year, which turned out awesome! I went with white, green, metallic, burlap…    I really like how it turned out.

IMG_5723

Next, it was time to decorate the tree and get the gifts wrapped. This year we tamed it down a bit with the tree size. We have high, vaulted ceilings so it’s easy for me to get carried away and try to bring home an old-growth fir 🙂 Our tree this year, though shorter, was just perfect. One by one we added our family ornaments.

On the first Eve of Christmas that we spent together, Ross & I exchanged ornaments. Six Christmases later, we haven’t broken tradition. Sometimes the ornaments we get each other are silly… Like the santa behind the ESPN desk I got Ross one year that says, ” He could go HO HO  HO ALL THE WAY!!!” … Other times they’re a little more sentimental like the 2010 talking-picture ornament Ross got me. This year Natalie got an ornament too! Her first ornament! I’m glad we started this tradition!! One day, I can give Natalie HER ornaments to start her own collection.

Natalie and mama hung  her first ornament together. It’s a pink and white ceramic rocking horse that says, “Baby’s first Christmas 2013”. Here’s a pic of me and Natalie hanging it on the tree together.

 image_13  image_11

Here’s another new ornament this year:

IMG_5784

The presents flooded out and around the entertainment center…

Gracie was exhausted from all the decorating…

     image_18

{The gift of giving}

Presents… Who doesn’t love receiving presents?! I’ve always enjoyed giving at Christmas time. It’s so rewarding watching the recipient’s expression when they open their special gift. The gift you purposely bought with them in mind. Sometimes I struggle finding the right gift… Other times it comes to me months early, but I scribble it down for future reference. If you don’t know by now, I’m a major list-maker.

A couple of our gifts this year were homemade!

I’m super excited about this. We made a platter for Grammy Teresa!

It was super easy and cost effective!! After a quick trip to Jo-Ann’s- we got started.

This turned out so great! After letting it dry for 24 hours, I baked it at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Simple as that!

I also gave away homemade coasters:

I mod-podged dictionary pages onto blank tiles..

Then glued felt feet on the bottom.

{24 hours of Christmas}

On Christmas Eve, we went up to my in-laws for a ham dinner! It was delicious, as always. We had such a good time visiting with family.

image_50   image_49   image_48   image_46   image_5  image_4   image_2image_3

Then we came home and fell fast asleep…

As you would expect, Santa came to fill our stockings and bring us gifts… since we were so good all year long.

   RIGHT?!

IMG_5953

Our wonderful neighbors left a package on our doorstep. How cute is this? Santa glasses, and a snowman full of hot cocoa mix!

image_47

Time to open stockings and presents!

image_27

“What could this present be?!”

image_10

   ” Is it a pony?”

“Humans are such a fascinating breed.”

“What is it??”                                                        “Alright! Just what I wanted!!”

We hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! Happy New Year from the Myrmos!!

Happy Snow Day..er…WEEK!

Wow! Well we got 5-7 inches of powdery snow dumped on our town … two days ago! – it’s not going anywhere anytime soon either. The temp is dipping into the single digits at night; Only warming to about 27 degrees during the day. We don’t get weather like this very often. It’s pretty!!

20131208-192618.jpg

The weatherman says we won’t even reach above freezing until Tuesday! Geesh. We woke up to -8 degrees this morning. •brrrrrr• ….. Needless to say I just (finally) left the house for the first time in a while. Although it’s slippery and can be a pain to drive in, I can’t complain. I think the snow is beautiful. It feels like Christmas time. 🙂 20131208-190912.jpg

20131208-232546.jpg

As the city started to shut down from all the crazy weather, I wondered how we’re going to entertain ourselves for the next several days?! The roads were skating rinks. It was time to get creative!

My weekend started with cooking …

. 20131208-193210.jpg

… a ham. It was so easy. I got a pre-cooked spiral cut ham from Costco. 2 hrs in the oven, and presto! Yep, couldn’t help myself! Mmmm. We had a ton of ham left over … which lead to navy bean & ham soup! ( I forgot to take a picture! Oops)

Followed by some yummy m&m cookies!! (Natalie helped!) We spent a ton of time in the kitchen this weekend 🙂 so fun! I can’t wait to teach my little girl how to cook, bake, craft -Oh my!

20131208-191854.jpg

Since we were still stranded at home in this winter wonderland … Mommy decided to have a fashion shoot:

I sure have fun playing dress-up with this little girl! We can’t get enough of my little sweet pea!!!!!

By Sunday I braved the weather! (cabin fever!!!)I wrapped up the weekend with some craft club gals!!! I love going to craft club!! It was a morning of creative juices, brunch, giggles, and some pretty awesome craft projects!!
When I arrived, there was a spot for me with a name tag and “swag bag”. There was a clipboard and invoice so I could keep track of the crafts I made.

Here’s my workstation. (How cute is that?!)

20131208-192004.jpg

There were many craft projects I could choose from and I made several different things. One of them, I will share with you!!
Look at this beautifully organized area!!  -Look at all the supplies. A crafter’s paradise.
